Dr K. Vijayamohanan

Dr. K. Vijayamohanan received his M.Sc degree in general Chemistry from the University of Kerala in 1983. Subsequently, he joined the Solid state & structural chemistry Unit of Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore for his Ph.D degree and his doctoral thesis was on the development of alkaline iron electrodes for Ni-Fe and Fe-air rechargeable batteries. After a brief postdoctoral work in the area of chemical sensors, he joined the Physical & materials Chemistry Division of National Chemical Laboratory, Pune in 1991 as a scientist. He has about 200 papers in different international journals in addition to about 20 patents including four US Patents. During 2001-2002 he spent his sabbatical as a visiting scientist to the department of Materials & Engineering, RPI, New York. He is a referee to various journals like Langmuir, J. Phys. Chem., Chem. Materials, Sensors & Actuators, and has delivered several invited talks at a number of international (in UK, China, Korea, Germany and in US) and national conferences. He has been a recepient of several awards and honours including the Materials Research Society of India medal (1997), IUPAC Associateship(1998), Scientist of the Year award of NCL Research Foundation(2002), Chemical Research Society of India Bronz medal(2004), Fellow of of the Maharashtra Academy of Sciences (2003-04), and Fellow of the Indian Academy of Sciences(2008). He is also a member in the editorial Board of Bulletin of Material Sciences from 2005 and Journal of Chemical Research(2008). His areas of interest are Self-assembled Monolayers, High aspect ratio nanostructures, Electrochemical power sources, Carbon nanotubes based Hybrid Materials etc.
