Science Mentor Fellowship Program

The Exciting Science Group (ESG) is a volunteer group of NCL scientists and IISER-P faculty that aims at exciting school students about the opportunities offered by science and technology. Details about the ESG, and their activities can be found at: http://www.excitingscience.org

Apply for an ESG fellowship to be a mentor: ESG is looking for socially conscious, talented students (undergraduates or graduate students) from NCL and IISER-P to become Science Club Fellows in 2016-17. ESG is associated with three PMC "magnet" schools (Vidya Niketans). Science Club Fellows (SCF) will be associated with one of these Vidya Niketans and will be responsible to conduct a weekly science club. The ESG invites students who are passionate about science and technology, and who are excited to mentor school students, to participate in the Fellowship program, and to help PMC school students develop a scientific temper. The Fellowship comes with a modest honorarium, that should be adequate to cover travel expenses.
In brief, the science clubs will be held once a week, on Fridays or Saturdays, at the schools. Mentors are expected to travel to their school to conduct 60-90 minute sessions each Friday or Saturday, from August 2016 to March 2017.Indicative outline of the content for each session will be developed by the ESG and will be provided to the science club mentors.The main responsibility of the science club mentors will be to conduct the science clubs regularly, and to use these sessions to develop critical thinking abilities in the students. If specific resources are required for the club sessions,the mentors can approach the ESG coordinators for help in liaising with NCL and IISER. The science club mentors are required to submit brief weekly progress reports, and to make a presentation to the ESG coordinators once a month
